Creative Spark

I've been having creative sparks ignite periodically these past few weeks. It's an itch that needs scratching. It's a whisper that I find hard to ignore. And Pinterest is fueling my creative juices.

I've been wanting to craft things and give them as gifts.

I've been wanting to decorate my whole house.

Can you tell I love color? I love bold coloring, especially in the midst of neutral. Lately I've really been drawn to the bohemian look like so...

Though I will probably never decorate my house in the boho look, it does appeal to my "wild side".

I think creative people must have some sore of a wild side...freedom and abandon that allow for imagination to grow big and express itself in various forms. Whether writing, crafting, or decorating the house, that wild side must be allowed room to breathe.

So how wild is your wild side? Do you find yourself wanting to stuff that side into the closet? Or do you make it come out to play on a daily basis?

  1. I let my wild side come out and play every day. I am thankful for a husband who has enough wisdom to tug the leash when I go too far! (by too far I do not mean bad things for me...just some times over the top, not-thought-out things that might get me killed! LOL)Things like, "Jess, ask XXX to take you for a motorcycle ride and share what his life was like prior to knowing Jesus. I don't think interviewing Bikers at Sturgis is smart."

    "But--"

"I know, it's authentic. But you want to be around to write the book, don't you?"

    You know, like that. LOL

    1. Oooo, Jessica...the adventure girl! I love that! I am still trying to free myself up to be a little more adventuresome. Crafty, yes. Adventuresome, not so much. :)

  2. Have always wanted to have blue hair, but not brave enough to have my hair dyed. Saw a clip on GMA about chalking, coloring your hair with artist pastels. I'll walk the wild side tomorrow when I have time to play.

    1. Oh CJ, please, please, please take a picture and share it!!! I would love to see you all in blue! Talk about a wild side!

  3. Oh my gosh, Sherrinda! Have you been eavesdropping on me? I know exactly what you're talking about. I've been going through every room of my house and sprucing it up--adding color and redecorating as much as I can (without spending too much money). And I've been wanting to make crafts for gifts and maybe to put on Etsy. I've even got my husband excited about it :)

    1. Wow, Cindy, we must on the same wave-length or something! I haven't really started my redecorating, but hopefully some extra money will come sometime! :)

  4. I think the wild side will come out a little more when my children are old enough to leave Mama's pretty things alone! Everything of value or beauty in my home is at least three feet off the ground (except for my childen, of course!). My sister is an interior designer and I drool when I go to her house - I didn't inherit those genes, bummer. So I rely on my creative juices to flow on the page - where no one can break anything unless I want them to and I can change the decor with a stroke of the pen!

    1. Oh yes, Gabrielle, I've been there and done that. Little ones certainly put a dent in the "pretties". :) I will say that even teens can damage the decor with their rough-housing and play. Sigh....:)

  5. My hubby and I are not too adventurous when it comes to decorating and such. I guess you could call us traditionalists. (Sounds better than sticks-in-the-mud, doesn't it?) The only time we move our furniture around is in December when we need to fit the Christmas tree in the livingroom. When the couch and chairs we'd bought during our time in Germany had to be replaced, we practically went into mourning. LOL

    1. Keli, you know what's funny? I rarely rearrange my furniture. Once it is in it's spot, I leave it there. I just want to get rid of all my old, old decor and start fresh. I need a change!!!!

I do love the term traditionalists much better than stick-in-the-mud. Seriously, there is something to be said for tradition.

  6. Oh Wow! Same thing has been going on in my head too. "Itch" is the perfect word for it. It comes in trickles, but currently seems to be a raging river. My wild side is wanting to shape up the boring back porch and make it a welcoming, cozy spot for family and guests. I have such great visions and every outdoor-furniture ad is calling my name!!
What is stopping me? Hmmmm . . .my pesky paycheck insists it must be devoted to bills not frills . . . (wistful sigh) Dream on!
